Rachana Narayanankutty plays Jessiemol, Josutty’s first love. He is what inspires Josutty throughout the film.Ĭhemban Ashokan plays Devassy chetan, Josutty’s only ally and friend in New Zealand. He finally removes his garb from Left Right Left and does great playing a righteous and calm-to-the-bone father who does not falter even during a storm. Hareesh Peerady plays Josutty’s father Joseph. How Josutty settles down in this new alien land is eventually ‘Life of Josutty’.

A series of events follow and it takes him across seas to New Zealand with his nurse wife Rose. Josutty is a 6th fail, sincere and loyal simpleton in his remote village Kattapana where he falls in love with his neighbor Jessiemol. Ravichandran’s cinematography, is however a saving grace as he wonderfully captures the beautiful locales of Idukki in all its glory of vastly flowing rivers, high rising hills and mountains. Nevertheless, Tini Tom was reportedly said to have been very happy to see the script being eventually made it to the big screen into what is Life of Josutty now. However, the production stalled with budget constraints and creative differences, eventually it got shelved. A little bird tweets that the actor/comedian Tini Tom loved the script so much that they shot it with a different director, locale and team. It fails to show that Josutty just got lucky eventually.Ī little back story:This script had been doing the rounds for quite a while before it landed in Jeethu’s kitty. Some of the disappointment one feels while watching this film can also be attributed to the average malayali culture and psyche where the film fails to establish the life of Rose (Jyothi Krishna) and her emotional struggles. Their fantastic camaraderie and comic timing wins the first half. However, Josutty is eventually much better owing to some good laughs (some inexplicit dialogues included though) by Dileep’s and his sidekicks Noby and Saju Navodaya. Life of Josutty, shares many similarities to Mammooty’s ‘Kadal Kidanna Mathukutty’ which again could not engage the audience interest for long. Simply put, it really turns into just another autobiography.

About 20 minutes into the second half, the film moves nonchalantly into predictability and could not keep the audience engaged. Life of Josutty raises the bar in the first half where we see the Josutty’s simple and sincere childhood in his remote and picturesque village of Kattapana and the leadto his marriage.

And having the ‘janapriya nayakan’ again on board doubles ones expectation from this team. Dileep and Jeethu have successfully collaborated earlier in ‘My Boss’.

Various stages of both the friends have been planned in the movie and I am really excited to work with Manju. With one of the most highly anticipated films of the year, Director Jeethu Joseph turns 6 films old with Life of Josutty. My character was fixed even before Manju was roped in. When he planned Aami, he told me that he would like me to do a character in the movie and I immediately said yes. He had earlier approached me with a project, but it did not work out as I was busy with Life of Josutty. Explaining how she was roped in for the role, Jyothi says, “Kamal sir and my family have known each other for many years now. Jyothi will be seen as Malathikuty, Kamala’s childhood friend. Despite the role being a small one, Jyothi is not bothered because she plays one of the major characters associated with Kamala Das. Aami, according to Jyothi, is a dream project as this is her first movie with director Kamal and Manju Warrier. Jyothi, who was not much active in movies after Life of Josutty, is all excited and busy these days for she is gearing up for her next flick Aami, one of the most-talked-about Malayalam films in recent times. The role had garnered Jyothi applauses from audience and film critics alike. Her bipolar nature forms the crux of the events through which the movie progresses. Those who have watched Dileep-starrer Life of Josutty might definitely have noticed the performance of Jyothikrishna as his onscreen wife Rose, an overpowering divorcee nurse settled in New Zealand.
